Additional Services

Learn more about the benefits Hospice of Orleans offers our patients, families, and community members.

We Honor Veterans Program

At Hospice of Orleans, we give special consideration to the men and women who have served our country in the military. This may include offering a Certificate of Appreciation for their service, connecting the patient to a Veteran Services agency, and pairing the patient with a volunteer who is also a veteran.

Pet Peace of Mind

Pet Peace of Mind® recognizes and actively supports the unique bond between hospice patients and their pets. Pet Peace of Mind® allows people to complete their end of life journey without worrying about their pet’s current or future needs. This initiative provides volunteer pet care services for pet owners who are unable to care for their pets while receiving Hospice services. Services may include dog and cat care such as walking, playing and waste clean-up; transportation to a Veterinarian for medical care and check-ups; fostering; and assistance with pet care and pet exercise.

Music Therapy

Studies have shown that music therapy helps relieve stress, promotes relaxation, and provides an overall sense of well-being. It has even been shown to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate. At Hospice of Orleans our music therapist spends time actively or passively engaging each patient via singing, playing instruments, and using music therapy relaxation techniques to address the patient's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs.

Pet Therapy

It has been proven that simply cuddling a pet can reduce anxiety and ease depression. During end-of-life care, these moments of unconditional love are all the more powerful. Trained volunteers from Hospice of Orleans bring specially certified dogs to visit patients and families in their home, nursing facility, hospital, or our own Martin-Linsin residence.

Massage Therapy

Research has shown that massage therapy can alleviate discomfort, fatigue, and stress in those with a life-limiting illness. Hospice of Orleans offers therapeutic massage to those patients who desire it.

For Families and Caregivers

Caregiver Support Group

Hospice of Orleans offers a monthly caregiver’s support group, a safe, confidential setting in which to share thoughts, feelings, and experiences about the challenges and joys of caregiving. This service is open to the community and provided at no cost to the participants.

The Caregivers Support Group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Hospice Counseling Center office at 4:00 p.m. Although reservations are not required, please call ahead in case of inclement weather or scheduling conflicts to be sure the group will be meeting at 585-589-0809.
